In the USA alone, there are about 3 million cases of the common cold every year. This can happen to anyone and everyone, some more susceptible than others. In this article, we will discuss what the common cold is, what causes it, and how CBD can help you with recovery.

Common cold:

The common cold is usually caused by inflammation that occurs in a person’s nasal/upper respiratory tract or in the sinus. The common cold is an illness that affects your nose and throat. Most often, it’s harmless, though it does not feel that way. Although many viruses can cause a cold or flu, rhinoviruses are to blame the majority of the time.

Often, adults may have two or three colds each year. Infants and young children may have colds more often. Most often, you do not need medical help for a common cold. If symptoms don’t get better or if they get worse, it is recommended to see your health care provider. There is no known cure for colds, however, most cases go away within about two weeks when a person uses natural remedies to control symptoms.

Symptoms:

Most often, common cold symptoms begin within a few days after someone is exposed to a cold virus. Some of the symptoms can include; Runny or stuffy nose, Sore or scratchy throat, Cough, Sneezing, Generally feeling unwell, Slight body aches or a mild headache, Low-grade fever.

The mucus from your nose may begin to appear clear and become thicker and yellow or green (this change can be normal). Luckily, this generally doesn’t mean that you have a bacterial illness.

CBD:

CBD comes from the cannabis or hemp plant; this plant being most commonly known for producing THC. The difference is that with how CBD is extracted from the plant, with that it doesn’t have the part of the plant that can cause a psychoactive effect like THC. CBD as a compound is used for medicinal purposes, generally used for insomnia, pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression, stress, etc.  CBD has natural antibacterial properties that can help combat secondary bacterial infections that may develop from the cold and flu. CBD is also an anti-inflammatory; it may help open up the sinus passages and increase the ease of breathing. CBD can help with reducing your overall inflammation in the body and allow your body to relax enough to get a better rest. There are a few risk factors to getting a cold: droplets in the air when someone who is sick coughs, sneezes or talks, hand-to-hand contact with someone who has a cold, sharing objects with the virus on them, such as dishes, towels, or telephones, touching your eyes, nose or mouth after contact with the virus, and according to a study, people with low-quality sleep are more prone to getting sick after being infected by rhinoviruses.

While CBD is not shown to cure colds, it can help ease the symptoms that occur during the infection. While the common cold is common, if your symptoms seem to be getting more intense or not getting better within a few days, we recommend speaking to a health care specialist as soon as possible.
