More than three million Americans are living with glaucoma, 2.7 million people ages 40 and older suffer with the most common form, open-angle glaucoma.
Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to your eye’s optic nerve and gets worse over time. It’s often linked to a buildup of pressure inside your eye. Glaucoma tends to be inherited and may not show up until later in life. Symptoms include but are not limited to blurred vision, halos around eyes, severe eye pain, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
Common treatments include eye drops, medication, laser surgery or a combination of all three. Side effects from Glaucoma medications can cause droopy eyelids, stinging, eye redness, itching, decreased blood pressure, fatigue, shortness of breath, and depression.
Since the 1970’s, studies have shown that CBD can alleviate glaucoma-related symptoms because they lower the intraocular pressure and have neuroprotective actions. Research shows that using CBD can decrease intraocular pressure by 25 to 30 percent.
Many scientists believe that CBD could be very useful in treating and possibly preventing glaucoma. CBD does not cause any side effects or long-term use complications which makes it a safe alternative from glaucoma medications. CBD continues to show promise in helping relieve those uncomfortable symptoms due to many different medical conditions.
At AHS we make it our mission to provide education and keep our customers up to date with the latest findings and knowledge on CBD.
